brvsh Stylus

Design + Production

After drawing with fingers on my iPad, and then trying oh so many unsatisfying styluses, I couldn’t stand it anymore and set out to create my own. I wanted something that felt solid and had heft in the hand, that I could hold as comfortably as a pen, and something that exuded a sense of classic style. And hence, the brvsh was born! I liked it so much that I thought others would too, and went into production!

If this looks like the stylus for you, you can pick one up at brvsh.com!

This was a proof-of-concept for a client’s project management training. The objective was to provide just-in-time training and an ongoing reference, with mobile phones as the target viewing device. Access could take the form of a web app, a native device app, or be wrapped in a SCORM-compliant package for LMS distribution.

Paper Doll PPE

Interactive Quizzing
Created in Articulate Storyline 1
Graphics developed in Adobe Photoshop CS6
Authored as SCORM 2004, 4th Ed. compliant

Part of a larger piece on safety equipment, this quiz challenges the learner to apply what they’ve just learned by outfitting a worker properly. While this one is simple, more challenging and nuanced quizzes lay ahead. Combined, these provide a clear picture of the points that the learner understands well, and allows for dynamically prescriptive review of the points that need reinforcement. Not only do learners get a more complete and thorough understanding of the information, they actually have fun doing it!

Health & Safety – Routes of Entry

Interactive Quizzing
Created in Articulate Storyline 1
Graphics developed in Adobe Photoshop CS6
Authored as SCORM 2004, 4th Ed. compliant

Part of a larger piece of health & safety training, this drag-and-drop categorization quiz follows a video piece covering key information. Once again, by creating a graphically-rich interactive experience, the learner gets double value – both mastery assessment and knowledge reinforcement. By designing training with these elements inserted periodically, learners are kept more engaged and gain longer-lasting benefits.

The Fire Extinguisher P.A.S.S. Method

Interactive Quizzing
Created in Articulate Storyline 1

Authored as SCORM 2004, 4th Ed. compliant

Part of a larger piece on emergency response and hazard communications, this “put in order” quiz is another example of the type of graphically-rich interactive quizzing that increases learner engagement and retention. Large organizations often bombard their employees with training, and as these requirements increase, it becomes vitally important –particularly in regard to safety– to make sure learners aren’t just “clicking through”. This is one tool in my arsenal to fight that.

Pictogram Interactive Quiz

Interactive Quizzing
Created in Articulate Storyline 1
Graphics developed in Adobe Photoshop CS6
Authored as SCORM 2004, 4th Ed. compliant

Part of a larger piece on emergency response and hazard communications, this matching exercise reviews and reinforces learner knowledge of hazard pictograms. As with other, similar pieces shown here, the development overhead is significantly more than if the built-in quizzes were used, but this delivers a much richer and more impactful experience. This piece was designed to gauge learner improvement through the module, and as such, tracks the learner’s incorrect answers and compares their performance before and after the training.

Noticing a Fire

Interactive Quizzing
Created in Articulate Storyline 1
Graphics developed in Adobe Photoshop CS6
Authored as SCORM 2004, 4th Ed. compliant

Part of a larger piece on emergency response and hazard communications, this style of graphically-rich multiple-choice quizzing with audio reinforcement increases learner engagement and retention. It takes a bit more to develop (and pushes Storyline a little beyond what it was really intended to do), but the feedback from users proves that it’s well worth the investment. It’s proven so popular that many customers are looking to upgrade their existing training to something similar.
